Don’t Swim Here: Most Treacherous American Beaches And Their Hidden Dangers

Researchers at Tideschart, a top tide-forecasting website, are cautioning tourists to avoid these ten hazardous beaches this summer, even though many visitors are eager to put on their bathing suits, apply sunscreen, and head to the beach for some sun worship.

Why is it dangerous to hang out on a beach? Hurricanes, shark attacks, and deaths from surfing, of course.

Florida boasts the most terrifying beaches, according to the Tideschart team’s meticulous analysis of more than 500 US shorelines.

With a score of 76.92 out of 100, where 100 is the most dangerous, New Smyrna Beach took the top spot on this list. According to the Tideschart team, because of its location on Florida’s eastern coast, this beach is most prone to see destructive storms.

To make matters worse, because of the highest probability of shark attacks, this shore has been dubbed the “Shark Bite Capital of the World.” Additionally, 12 surf fatalities are alleged to have occurred at New Smyrna Beach between 2010 and 2024.

With a rating of 67.75, Laguna Beach is ranked No. 2 on this list of terrible places. Along with nine shark attacks, this Panama City beach on the Panhandle is said to have had the highest number of surf-related fatalities of any beach under analysis, 39 to be exact.

With a score of 64.47, popular tourist attraction Daytona Beach, located just north of New Smyrna, ranked third on the list. There have reportedly been around 70 shark attacks and 27 recorded surfing fatalities as a result of the beach’s strong currents.

Miami Beach residents, take note: this seaside city came in at number four with a score of 46.49, 13 surf-related fatalities, and apparently over 20 shark attacks.

Despite being the tiniest beach boardwalk in the world, Indialantic Ocean Beach Park is incredibly powerful. With 30 shark attacks and nine surf fatalities, this dangerous beach received a score of 44.64.

Fortunately, New York has one of the nicest beaches in America, even though Florida may have the most hazardous beaches.

Stephen P. Leatherman, also known as Dr. Beach, an environmental sciences specialist at Florida International University, gave Coopers Beach, which is situated on the East End’s Southampton coastlines, this moniker.

This beach was praised for its “white quartz sand” and “large sand dunes covered by American beach grass interspersed with extravagant mansions.”

“It’s a big, beautiful beach,” Leatherman
